Cognitive Stimulation Therapy

Cognitive Stimulation Therapy is a programme of social activities incorporating orientation, brain stimulation and attention focus. It encourages people with dementia to feel more in control and builds confidence. Research shows the effects are felt even after the course is complete.

CST is most often delivered in a group setting. It can be delivered to people during early and moderate stages of dementia.

“Cognitive stimulation therapy is the psychological approach with the strongest evidence for improving cognition. […]it is cost effective for people with mild-to-moderate dementia and is recommended in the UK by NICE.” (Lancet report 2017)
